Emma Freed is an artist, storyteller and designer from the San Francisco East Bay. She enjoys working in a variety of traditional and digital mediums to create playful, whimsical designs with a gentle spirit. Emma spent a decade working in informal art education for children ages 2-12, and the past four years building skills in concept art and illustration. She aspires to use her playful designs to empower children and young adults with tools, toys and content that encourage making, storytelling and creativity. 
Emma graduated from the Academy of Art University in 2019 with a Master of Fine Arts in Visual Development for Animation.
Before that she earned a BA in Cinema Production from San Francisco State University and an MA in Fashion and Film from University of the Arts London.  
Emma is currently working as a freelance illustrator and creature designer. She is particularly interested in working on projects for the child or family audience that encourage empathy, storytelling, play-based learning and compassion for animals. She is also interested in designing for the educational and commercial toy markets.
